Scalp care: Why scalp care is not a trend, but a necessity

Scalp care: Zašto njega vlasišta nije trend, nego potreba

Hair care starts from the roots, or rather from the scalp. The emphasis on scalp care has never been greater, and the reason for this is the increasingly frequent occurrence of hair loss and thinning, dandruff and flaking, and excessive oiliness. Only a balanced scalp is a suitable "soil" for strong and thick hair, and below you will find out why scalp care is not a trend, but a serious need.

Ensure your scalp is balanced

The scalp is covered with skin, just like the face and body, but because of the hair itself, this area is a real "playground" for the development of microorganisms, especially in an era of using an extremely large number of serums, oils, pomades, mousses and hairsprays to strengthen the hair. Most microorganisms are otherwise harmless, but any imbalance brings a problem. For example, not washing often enough or not thoroughly enough, delaying it, using inappropriate products and sleeping with wet hair can encourage the growth of fungi that are normally present, which causes dandruff, itching and flaking. In addition, postponing washing the scalp can lead to clogged pores and hair follicles, which inevitably leads to hair loss and thinning.

Follow the basic steps of proper scalp care

1. Take care of your scalp like you take care of your face and body skin

For scalp care, there are specialized scalp lotions that are specifically tailored to specific needs such as dandruff, hair loss, or excessive oiliness. Follow the instructions on the product and apply it continuously and long-term for visible results.

2. Choose a shampoo according to your scalp's needs

Most people usually find it helpful to rotate between sulfate-free shampoos for frequent washing and sulfate-based shampoos for deep cleansing. A sulfate shampoo will be able to remove any buildup that may have built up on your scalp, providing a much-needed reset. So, use sulfates occasionally as needed, and use a sulfate-free formula for "regular" hair washing. We've explained the difference between these two types of shampoo here.

3. Wash your hair often enough

Don't avoid washing your hair too often. Again, the scalp is skin, it needs quality and regular cleaning. Trends like "scalp training" and prolonged periods without washing your hair will not bring any concrete benefits, but rather an imbalance, especially for hair that gets oily quickly or a sensitive scalp. Also, if you let your hair dry on its own, dry the roots anyway. Humidity can accelerate and encourage the growth of fungi on the scalp, especially Malassezia, which causes seborrheic dermatitis.

4. Massage your head

We all probably want to focus on better hair growth and density at some point, and special shampoos, oils, and lotions aren't enough for that. It's crucial to stimulate blood circulation in the scalp so that all the nutrients can circulate quickly and intensively enough and stimulate the hair roots to grow. Therefore, don't forget to set aside at least 10 minutes a day, but ideally more, for a head massage that will relax you along the way. A good trick is head inversion - lower your head off the bed and stay in that position for a few minutes, as long as it's comfortable. This position will bring blood to the head and stimulate circulation, which is a key element in hair growth. If your scalp is not sensitive, sometimes include a scalp scrub in your routine. It will definitely be a refreshing factor!

5. Adopt the habit of long-term hair care

No change comes overnight. It takes a long period of combining and testing products and their combinations, harmonizing application, but also improving other aspects such as nutrition, stress, sleep and other elements, for hair to shine in its true full glory. It is important to realize this as soon as possible and simply enjoy the process.
